Kingswood is located in the Western Suburbs of Sydney; it is situated 49 km west of the Sydney CBD in New South Wales, Australia. Kingswood is located in the Penrith state electorate and has a population of 8,717. The suburbs surrounding Kingswood are: Penrith, Cambridge Park, Werrington, Claremont Meadows, Orchard Hills and South Penrith.
The suburb was named for Governor Phillip Gidley King, who was one of the founders of the area and owned a significant amount of land in the suburb. The suburb is accessible via public transport on the Western Line of the City Rail network and is home to the University of Western Sydney Penrith campus, which is spread out across both Kingswood and nearby Werrington. The university is so large that it is able to be accessed by both the Werrington and Kingswood railway stations. The Nepean College of TAFE, also has a campus in Kingswood.
